Regional adaptation interests: 

Future tourism prospects of local communities

Demonstration projects:

  1. Examine how strategic tourism planning in Finnish Lapland takes into account the issues of climate change by mapping the tourism products of Northern Finland from the viewpoint of their possibilities to adapt to drastic or slower changes of the operating environment and give guidance to tourism product developers.
  2. A project that will involve preliminary flood risk assessment and flood risk maps for the rivers Kemijoki and Ounasjoki in Rovaniemi, and for Kittilä, flood risk management plans, visualisations for local people (maps, website, seminars and media), building codes and land use plans.
